About The Event
Thank you to everyone who joined for the vitual class! Starts are still available for purchase through Wednesday, May 26th at 5pm. And, available for pick up this Saturday, May 29th, 9am-11am at the location you choose upon purchase.

Join us for a FREE Grow Your Own virtual workshop focusing on growing beans and peas at high altitude on Tuesday, May 25th at 5pm PT, taught by Katie Townsend Merino, Slow Food Lake Tahoe’s Food Bank Garden Director. As many of us know, high elevation gardening is tricky! Enjoy instruction from an expert who will cover planting, harvesting, pest management, river/lake friendly gardening techniques, biology discussions, and information on the history of this group of food crops.
You MUST pre-register for the free virtual workshop by reserving a ticket below. If you are unable to attend the live workshop you can still register to purchase starter plants. The virtual workshop will be recorded and posted on this site to watch at a later time.
In addition, a variety pack of $10 starter plants are available for pick-up in Truckee, Tahoe City, and South Lake on the Saturday morning following each class, 9am-11am. Pay in advance to reserve your starts AND help support the future of the Grow Your Own Program. Please note that any plants that are not picked up during the Saturday pick up window will be donated to the Food Bank Garden.
Each participant gets 3 plants each of:
Pole Bean - Tronfo Violetto
French Filet – Maxibel Haricot Vert
Bush Bean - Provider
Bush Bean – Travera
Peas - Cascadia Snap
Peas - Oregon Sugar Pod II
*All plant varieties and counts subject to change based on the success of growing the starts
Participants growing the provided starts will be sent a brief end of season growing survey to help identify successful varieties for the difficult Truckee/Tahoe climate.
